What’s In A Name?

May 18, 2007

This week’s exercise is to write an acrostic poem based on my own name. Here is what I did:

Dream

Gray clouds of longing
Undulate beneath these stormy sheets.
In the darkness of this quiet dusk,
Life hangs in a standstill
Except for traces of your words,
Laughter remembered and missed,
Echoing inside of me.
Still, I whisper a luminous hello—
Stay, I implore, don’t ever go.

Come daybreak, the sky will paint
A tangerine glow on your brow.
Nascent sighs soon epitomize
Each moment of my near waking.
Night has almost gone, but you
Can still defer this parting.
Inside this fleeting dream—stay
A little while longer.
